What it does

The main features are as follows.

  • Metronome: play clicks while changing the tempo (20 to 300 BPM), time signature, subdivision, accents and sound
  • Time signatures: choose from 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8 and 7/8. In tempofy, 6/8 and 7/8 play every eighth note as one beat (when a score gives a 6/8 tempo on the dotted quarter note, the BPM is three times that number; the maximum is 300 BPM, so this works up to 100 on the dotted quarter note)
  • Subdivisions: choose quarter, eighth, 16th, triplet or 32nd
  • Seeing the tempo: choose the beat shape from Bars, Baton, Ring and Linear. You can also turn the sound off and practice with the light alone
  • Speed trainer: raises or lowers the tempo automatically every few bars
  • Measuring a tempo: measure BPM by tapping
  • Rhythm practice: tap timing and gap practice let you check how far off the sound you are and how well you keep the tempo
  • Saving on your device: you can save My presets and practice records on your device without signing in
  • Sharing: you can create a link containing a tempo or a practice plan and send it to others
  • Features for signed-in users: you can sync My presets, practice records and your metronome settings with your other devices. You can also view the practice report and send feedback

Without an internet connection

After you have opened it once, it is designed to work even without an internet connection (it may not work depending on your device or browser, or on how many days have passed since you last opened it).

Things to keep in mind

See the Terms of Service for details.

  • Sound and display: the timing of sounds and what is shown on screen may be off depending on your device, earphones and so on. You can adjust the display with sound and display sync
  • Volume: Please be careful with the volume. Listening to loud sound through earphones or headphones for a long time can damage your hearing.
  • Flashing light: The Service also has displays that light up and move in time with the tempo. If you have ever felt unwell from flashing lights, please take care, for example by refraining from using the Service.
  • Device data: Device data may be lost because of browser settings, deleting site data, or how devices and browsers work.

Operator and information

The Service is run by an individual.

  • Operator: the tempofy operator (an individual)
  • Information saved on your device: While you are not signed in, your My presets, practice records and the like are saved only on your device (in your browser) and are not stored on the operator's servers (usage measurement does send figures such as minutes practiced and tempos, in a form that does not show whose they are).
  • Information sent automatically: To run and improve the Service, access records, usage measurements that do not identify you, error information and the like are sent, whether or not you are signed in.
  • What it does not use: The Service does not use the microphone, the camera or your device's location (such as GPS).
  • More details: see the Privacy Policy for how information is handled
  • Contact: use the contact form (opens Google Forms in a new tab)
  • New features and changes: posted in the News
